Injury Prevention

Injuries remain among the leading causes of death for children and adults in the U.S. From motor vehicle accidents and falls to unintentional poisonings and homicides, injuries can result in loss of life or temporary and permanent disabilities, as well as impact the quality of life of the affected individuals and their families. The Research & Evaluation Group at PHMC collaborates on projects aimed at preventing both unintentional and intentional injuries. Our team has been engaged in research and evaluation studies focused on pedestrian safety in Philadelphia, identifying trends in fatalities among children and women, and exploring policies to reduce injury related deaths.

Some of our past and current funders include the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Penn DOT) and the Knight Foundation.
