Developing innovative strategies to improve day-to-day health – both at work and outside the office – is important for maintaining engaged and productive employees. Health issues such as stress, chronic diseases, tobacco use, work/life balance, and depression can significantly affect an employee’s workday. The use of effective workplace health programs and policies can reduce health risks and improve the quality of life for U.S. workers. As a result, many employers are turning to workplace health programs to help employees lower their risk of developing chronic diseases and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Research & Evaluation Group at PHMC has been engaged in studies of worksite health in the Philadelphia region and nationwide. Our team has surveyed Philadelphia-area employees about their engagement in workplace health programs, evaluated a federally-funded national worksite health training program for employers seeking to implement or improve their own programs, and has helped to develop and evaluate PHMC’s own worksite health program.
